Earl was born October 5, 1924 on the family farm, northeast of Funk, Nebraska in Phelps County, the youngest of four children born to Carl A. and Francis (Lundquist) Larson. He received his primary education from District #18, east of Funk and then attended Holdrege High School, graduating with the class of 1942. Following his education, Earl engaged in farming with his father on the farm.

Earl and Charlotte began living on the family homestead two miles east of Funk, where Earl farmed and raised livestock. Earl's true passion on the farm was his livestock. In his spare time, he was also employed by numerous sale barns including: Kearney, Lexington and Holdrege. Many friendship bonds were formed through the years at the Sale Barn. In 1997, the couple moved into Funk and resided there until 2009, when they began to make their home in Holdrege. Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte in May of 2010.

He was a lifelong member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church. Earl was also involved in several community activities through the years, he especially loved attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He found great joy when his grandchildren would come to visit.
