Memorial Services for Eddie E. Engler will be held at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, Nebraska on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Paul Ferrarone officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Offutt Air Force Base Military Funeral Honors Team at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will follow at a later date.

Eddie E. Engler, 79 years of age, of Long Island, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Harlan County Health Systems in Alma. Eddie was born on October 13, 1934 in Slayton, Minnesota, the eldest of nine children born to Edwin and Violet (Rummans) Engler. He received his primary education and graduated from Slayton High School with the class of 1952.

Following his graduation, he was inducted into the United States Air Force. He worked as a firefighter and worked in the control tower, helping air craft land and takeoff. On September 7, 1962 he was honorably discharged.

Eddie returned to Maine and began to work for his future father-in-law, at his logging operation. He met the love of his life, Alice Carr. On March 2, 1957, he was united in marriage to Alice in Old Town, Maine. The couple was blessed with one son, Eddie, Jr. "Butch." Eddie and Alice moved to Connecticut, where he worked for Alice's uncle making cement blocks. The family then moved to Minnesota where Eddie, began working for the local farmers. The couple moved to Naponee, Nebraska looking for ranch work before Eddie took a job with the Nelson Ranch in Long Island, Kansas.

Eddie enjoyed raising cattle and farming. His greatest love was for his animals. He worked hard at training horses.

In his free time, Eddie enjoyed fishing and black powder hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Eddie leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 57 years, Alice of Long Island, Kansas; son, Butch Engler of Hildreth, Nebraska; granddaughter, Amanda Rupe of Minden, Nebraska; great-granddaughter, Amelia Rupe of Minden; brothers: Marlin, Jerry, Bill , Marlo "Butch" and Leroy; sisters: Dorothy, twin sisters: Connie and Carol, Donna and Darlene; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

There will be no visitation or memorial book signing as the family has chosen cremation.

A memorial has been established in Eddie's honor and kindly suggested to the American Cancer Society.
