Edna Anna Brunow, 96 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Edna was born on April 5, 1926, in Kinsley, Kansas, to Myron J. and Fay Anna (Dawley) Cole. She was one of five children. She received her education from Sharon Springs Public Schools in Sharon Springs, Kansas, graduating with the class of 1944.
Edna moved to Colorado and married Woodrow Schukar. The couple was blessed with five children: Frank, Larry, Virginia, Alice, and Linda (born at rest); later divorcing, after moving to Minden, Nebraska in 1958 to live near family. In 1971, she moved to Holdrege and started working for Beckton Dickinson where she worked for 19 years. Edna continued to stay busy working part-time jobs.
On December 31, 1974, she was united in marriage to Edwin Brunow. They met at a Parents Without Partners meeting and together they enjoyed dancing. Ed passed away on January 8, 1990, never having the opportunity to enjoy retirement.
She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in church bible studies and women's circles through the years. She was also a member and past president of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Becton Dickinson Retirees Group. Edna was also a member of the V.F.W. in Axtell, Nebraska, and B.P.O.E. Does.
Edna's love was bowling. She participated in bowling leagues in Holdrege, Kearney, and travel leagues. For 35 years, Edna traveled to many National Bowling Tournaments. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center for meals and activities. Edna was a daredevil; she rode crazy rides at the Kearney County Fair and at 89 years old, she parachuted out of a plane in Holdrege.
Edna treasured the time spent with her family. Above all, she had a faithful and deep-abiding love for her Lord Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; daughter, Linda Lois in infancy; 4 siblings: Orville Cole and his wife, Eva; Hugh Cole; Letha Allen and her husband, Les; John Cole; three half-siblings, and one son-in-law, Terry Britton.
Edna leaves to celebrate her life; four children: Virginia Britton of Kearney, Nebraska; Frank Schukar and his wife, Mary of Minden; Alice Cisneros and her husband, Frank of Kearney; and Larry Schukar and his wife, Nancy of Loomis, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great- grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Cole; along with other family members.
