Edna Mae "Ned" Suhr, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at her home in Holdrege, following a courageous battle with dementia.  Her last weeks were spent with her daughters by her side, serving as her primary caregivers.  Ned was born at the Jurgens family homestead, in northern Phelps County, Nebraska, on August 24, 1932, the youngest of four children, born to Charles LaGrande and Olevia J. (Jurgens) Loar. Ned was baptized and confirmed at the First Baptist Church in Holdrege.  She received her primary education from rural schools in Phelps County and then attended and graduated from Holdrege High School, with the class of 1949.  Following her graduation, she went to work in the office of the Phelps County Creamery.

On August 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to Gordon W. Suhr at the First Baptist Church in Holdrege.  This union was blessed with four children:  Stephen Wayne, who died in infancy, Theresa Jo "Terry", Canda Rae "Candy", and Sheryl Ann "Shelley".  The family made their home in Holdrege and Ned typed from home, for others.

She went to work part-time in 1960, for a local Architect, then she worked for Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, as the church secretary.  Ned began working full time for Beale's OK Tire in 1966 and remained their bookkeeper for 25 years.  She then worked for Shelley's accounting office for a few years until she began working in the Phelps County Clerk's office.  Ned worked as the payroll specialist for seven years and was then elected the Phelps County Clerk in 1998, remaining in that position until 2007.

Ned was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, where she held various positions, including serving on the Church Council and as Church Treasurer.  She also enjoyed Church Circle and many Bible Studies.  She was also a member of the Holdrege Country Club, the Holdrege Duster Booster Club, various Bridge Clubs, the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Bethel Lutheran Church Choirs, The Group, the Extension Club, the Birthday Coffee Club, bowling league, the Holdrege Women's Golf Association, the Phelps Memorial Service League, along with many other hobbies and past times. Ned was also very proud to be a 30 year breast cancer survivor.

Ned loved Nebraska Football, walking two miles daily, golfing, sewing, playing piano, singing, studying the Bible, and playing Bridge.  She faithfully followed her daughter's, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities, which included everything imaginable.
