Edward James Goldrick, 53 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away peacefully at his ranch near Oxford, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 after a year-long battle with cancer. Ed was born on May 1, 1964 in Geneva, New York, the third son born to Thomas and Jean (Enright) Goldrick. His family relocated to Hingham, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Hingham High School. Ed then attended and graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
He was employed most of his life at Viaero. The company relocated him from Boston to Holdrege, where he built cell towers in the area. Later on in his career, he drove a company truck, always accompanied with his faithful Border Collie, Dietz, to inspect towers throughout Nebraska and South Dakota, as well as serving as a foreman at Viaero's new warehouse in Grand Island, Nebraska. He met Janet (Williams) Tralla on Valentine's Day at the Eagles Club in Holdrege, and eight months later they were married. After living in Holdrege for a year, they found a ranch just northeast of Oxford, where Ed created the home of their dreams. Ed not only built a chicken coop from the ground up that served as a home for over 40 chickens, but also, created a huge garden with a self-made watering system. Always handy with any tool, Ed created a beautiful ranch with the potential to raise animals, or grow produce intended to sell at the local Farmer's Market, but soon his cancer made it too painful to work with the animals, and the land.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jean Enright.
Those left to celebrate his life include: his wife, Janet Goldrick of rural Oxford; two stepchildren: Alexa Tralla of Denver, Colorado, and Marcus Tralla also of Denver; his father, Thomas Goldrick and his wife, Loretta of Newport, Rhode Island; mother-in-law, Jean Williams of Funk, Nebraska; two brothers: John Mark Goldrick of Newport, Rhode Island, Thomas Goldrick of Boston, Massachusetts; one sister, Mary Shields and her husband, Joe of Clearwater, Florida; one step-sister, Heather Szczepiorkowski and her husband, Zbigniew of Hanover, New Hampshire; three sisters-in-law: Peggy Hayes and her husband, Dan of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Susan VaughnWilliams and her husband, Mike of Funk; Fran Clark and her husband, Tom of Lincoln, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends.
