On March 6, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Army, and served his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on December 7, 1952.  Following his military service, Ed continued to pursue his degree in teaching at Kearney State College.  Ed began his teaching career as a Math and Industrial Arts educator, and also coached for over ten years.  After achieving his Master's degree at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Ed then served the remainder of his career in administration as a Superintendent.
