Eileen May Schrock, 97 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. She was born May 17, 1920, on the family farm, south of Axtell in Kearney County, Nebraska, the youngest of four children born to Edward and Josephine (Moline) Miller. Eileen was confirmed in the Bethany Lutheran Church near Axtell. At six weeks old, Eileen's father passed away in a swimming accident at the Cottonmill Lake near Kearney. The family continued to farm until they lost their home in a fire and then moved into Holdrege. While attending Holdrege High School, Eileen's mother died of cancer. With her sister's encouragement, Eileen continued school, and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1938.
On July 10, 1938, she was united in marriage to Sam Schrock, Jr. in Holdrege, and to this union three sons were born: Sam III, Edward and Robin. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Holdrege. In 1948, they relocated to a farm northwest of Holdrege, where they continued to farm and raised their family. Eileen and Sam celebrated 62 years of marriage before Sam's passing in March of 2000. In March of 2015, Eileen made her home at the Christian Homes Care Community.
Eileen had a true passion for history, and especially antiques. She enjoyed refinishing furniture, and refinished an antique organ for each grandchild. Eileen had a special gift of taking a dilapidated antique, and turning it into a beautiful piece of fine furniture.
In 1966, she helped found the Phelps County Historical Society, which eventually built the Nebraska Prairie Museum north of Holdrege. She and Sammy enjoyed many trips searching for antiques that were utilized throughout their home. She was honored several times over the years for her work at the museum, where she served on the Board of Directors as Vice President, and was an active volunteer. Her labor of love was cleaning, decorating, and designing displays for the museum. She was active with the Rural Neighbors Bible study group, as well as the neighborhood sewing group, and birthday club. She and Sammy also enjoyed square dancing, and playing cards with the Skunk Hollow Gang. She was a devoted 75 year member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was active in her church circle.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by; one sister, Lucille Holen and her husband, Kenneth; two brothers: Stanley Miller and his wife, Alpha; and Wesley Miller and his wife, Marge; four sisters-in-law: Violet Morrison and her husband, Forrest; Patricia Leff and her husband, Charles; Ruth Larson and her husband Burt; and Helen Hendricks and her husband, Harlan; and brother-in-law, Truman Schrock in infancy.
Eileen leaves to celebrate her life; her three sons: Sam Schrock III and his wife, Sharon; Ed Schrock and his wife, Judy; and Robin Schrock and his wife, Donna, all of rural Elm Creek, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Ted Schrock and his wife, Shari; Tom Schrock; Karla Foit and her husband, Rob; Vicki Johnson and her husband, Corey; Samuel (Trent) Schrock and his wife, Sarah; Cecelia Schrock; and Charlene Schrock; 15 great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Jacqueline, and Jacob Schrock; Grace, Brett, and Lily Schrock; Cole, Ella, and Elijah Johnson; Bridgette and Rachael Foit; Nikolas, Harley, Shirley, and Samuel T.
