Funeral Services for Elaine Sadil will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dale Lambert officiating. Interment will be held at the Fridhem Cemetery at Funk, Nebraska.
Hazel "Elaine" Sadil, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2010 at her home in Holdrege. Elaine was born November 19, 1925 at Kenesaw, Nebraska, the second of four children of Lawrence James and Alice Pearl (Groff) Knight. Elaine attended school at Funk and Holdrege and then graduated from Kenesaw High School with the class of 1942.
On May 3, 1946 she was united in marriage to Frank Benjamin Sadil and to this union two children were born: Cheryle and Charlene, on the same day, three years apart.
She was first employed at the telephone company in Hastings. After her marriage she worked at several stores in Fairbury, Nebraska and then was a homemaker for several years. Later, when they lived in Holdrege, she worked at the Soda Shop in Noble Drug and Elstun Drug Store, the Java Junction, and also Harlan's Bakery.
In 1996 she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank.
Elaine was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, where she was active in the Sarah Group. She was also a member of the VFW and Eagles where she held several officer positions. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and dancing to Polka music.
Besides her parents and husband, Frank, Elaine was preceded in death by one sister: Irene Fahnholz; and one brother: Paul "Lee" Knight.
She leaves to mourn her passing her two children: Cheryle Christiansen and her husband, Gary of Hampton, Nebraska, Charlene Sikes and her husband, Mike of Loup City, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Scott Brand of Groton, Connecticut, Stacy Brand and wife, Sara of Kearney, Nebraska, Amber Christiansen and her fiancé, Tony Huisman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Chris Sikes and his wife, Sarah of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Brody Sikes of Loop City, Nebraska; four great-grandchildren: Graden, Emma, Cheryl and Moira; one sister: Jeanne Williams of Enid, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law: Larry Sadil and his wife, Virginia of Littleton, Colorado; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held prior to services at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
