Eldon Gene Steinbrink, 86 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of rural Loomis, Nebraska) passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Eldon was born January 5, 1929 on a farm near Elwood in Gosper County, Nebraska, the third of seven children born to George and Ethel (Taylor) Steinbrink. When Eldon was young the family lived on a farm south of Eustis, Nebraska, where he attended rural school and then his freshman year at Eustis High School. In 1943 they moved to a farm one mile north of Loomis, where Eldon graduated from Loomis High School with the class of 1946. After high school he attended one semester at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln before returning home to the farm.

Eldon enlisted into the United States Army and was inducted in Omaha, Nebraska on October 6, 1950, serving his country during the Korean War. He was promoted to Corporal in July of 1953 and continued serving until his honorable discharge on October 5, 1953. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. Following his service he was united in marriage on December 12, 1953 to Pauline L. Schwarz at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertrand. The couple celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in December of 2013. The couple made their home on farms in the Loomis area, where they engaged in farming and raised their three children: David, Debbie and Robert. In 1959 they moved to a farm five miles north of Loomis until moving to a new home two miles west of Loomis in 1980.

Eldon enjoyed his farming operation, raising cattle, gardening, and raising a large pumpkin patch to share with his grandchildren and friends. Visiting with family and friends was always an important part of his life. He was always up for a card game and had a regular chair at the Townmart skat table. Throughout the years, Eldon enjoyed serving his community on several boards and organizations. He was a past member of the Phelps County Board of Supervisors, serving as Chairman for a number of years. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his kind heart.

The couple also enjoyed traveling, taking their family on many vacations visiting family throughout Nebraska, Oklahoma and California. They enjoyed their sons being local and also had enjoyed many travels to visit their daughter, Debbie in Texas, Oregon and Maryland. Eldon and Pauline loved spending time watching all of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities through the years.

In July of 2012, Eldon and Pauline began to make their home at Chrisoma West in Holdrege and on April 18, 2014, Pauline preceded him in death.

Besides his parents and loving wife, Pauline, Eldon was preceded in death by two brothers: Lloyd and Roger Steinbrink; one sister, Thelma Schultz and her husband, Bill; brothers-in-law: Covert "Pat" Klepper and Paul "Pete" Schwarz and his wife, Darlene; and sister-in-law: Minnette "Mitzi" Steinbrink.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his two sons: David Steinbrink and his wife, Jeannie of Holdrege and Robert Steinbrink and his wife, Linda of rural Loomis; his daughter, Debbie Steinbrink of Gaithersburg, Maryland; six grandchildren: Matthew Steinbrink and his wife, Dianah, Pamela Peterson and her husband, Lans, Tyler Steinbrink and his wife, Amber, Marcus Steinbrink, Micah Steinbrink and his wife, Darla, and Damon Steinbrink; seven great-grandchildren: Macie and Marshall, Clayt and Adalyn, Hailie and Camden, and Skylar; two brothers: Rex Steinbrink and his wife, Twyla of Trenton, Nebraska, and Paul Steinbrink of Kearney; sister, Betty Klepper of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; sister-in-law, June Steinbrink of Holdrege; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
