Eleanor Elizabeth (Bantam) Burchett, 92 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma. Eleanor was born February 13, 1915, the fifth of seven children of Wright Edgar and Edith Mary (Smith) Bantam at their home in rural Eldorado Township in Harlan County, Nebraska. She attended District # 60 School southwest of her parents home. Eleanor was baptized on December 6, 1942 at the Christian Church in Alma.

On December 11, 1954 she was united in marriage to Walter Burchett in Alma and the couple made their home in Grand Island, Nebraska. Eleanor was employed at the Coney Island Diner in downtown Grand Island and later at the restaurant at Miller and Paine at the Conestoga Mall in the late 1970's. In the 1980's Eleanor retired and continued to live in her home in Grand Island, where she filled her days making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, Cabbage Patch Dolls, quilts and needle work. She was a faithful member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Grand Island. Eleanor enjoyed going to church services and participating in church activities. She remained at home until she had difficulty caring for herself after a fall which she sustained injuries. Eleanor then moved to the Colonial Villa in Alma, where she could be near her sister, Bessie Garrett. Following Bessie's passing in May of 1999, Eleanor moved to the Hillcrest Terrace Assisted Living in Alma and then returned to the Villa, where she resided until her passing.

She leaves to mourn her passing her one sister-in-law, Pauline Bantam of Orleans and twenty-one nieces, nephews, and many great nieces and nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Nora Edith Carlson and Bessie Mabel Garrett; four brothers: John William, Glenn Wright, Dale Edgar and Albert Bryan Bantam; sisters-in-law: Ruth Bantam, Pearl Bantam; brother-in-law, Arnold Carlson and one nephew, Roger Bantam.
