Funeral Services for Eleanor Hanna will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alma United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska with Reverend Jim Bendorf officiating. Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery.

Eleanor Marie Hanna, 95 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Colonial Villa-Good Samaritan Society in Alma.  Eleanor was born March 28, 1923 in Moville, Iowa, the youngest of three children born to William Henry and Edith Whilmena (Stralow) Jacobsen. She received her primary education at Humphry Public Schools in Morrison, Illinois and Sterling Rural School near Sterling, Illinois and then attended Sterling High School.

On January 3, 1942, she was united in marriage to Wayne Stuart Hanna at the Methodist Parsonage in Milledgeville, Illinois and to this union, they were blessed with three children: Janice, James and Lonny. The family made their home in Milledgeville, Illinois for 10 years and later Gary, Indiana, where she was employed as a branch manager for Stanley Home Products. In 1959, when Eleanor became a manager for Avon Products Inc., they moved to Aurora, Illinois. She worked there for over 20 years; and was awarded the Circle of Excellence five times. This was accomplished by being one of the top ten managers in sales. As a reward, she won trips to Bermuda, Greece, Paris, San Francisco, and New York City.  In 1985, Wayne and Eleanor relocated to Alma to be near family; later that year, Wayne preceded her in death.

Eleanor was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Alma and a former member of the Fox Valley Bethany United Methodist Church in Aurora, Illinois. She was a member of UMW, and a past member of the Chapter B.J. - P.E.O. of Alma.  Eleanor enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge and Pinochle, and also enjoyed playing the piano, organ and accordion. Most of all, Eleanor loved her family and treasured all the time spent with her children and their families.

Besides her parents and husband; Eleanor was preceded in death by; her sister, Verna Manon and her husband, Lloyd; brother, Robert Jacobsen and his wife, Ruth; and her daughter, Janice Stuhmer and her husband, Neil.

Eleanor leaves to celebrate her life; two sons: James Hanna and his wife, Carole of Frankfort, Illinois, and Lonny Hanna and his wife, Sally of Alma; seven grandchildren:  Tim Stuhmer and his wife, Samantha; Tana Clare and her husband, David Clare, M.D.; Christy Galati; Julie Mayorga and her husband, Walter; Jenny Finn and her husband, Brian; Drew Hanna and his wife, Anna; and Byron Hanna and his wife, Allison; 15 great-grandchildren:  Brady, Alexandra and Carlee Stuhmer; Patrick and Thomas Clare; Gaetana and Filippo Galati; Cadence, Brayden, and Katia Finn; Carrie and Alexander Mayorga; Austin and Connor Hanna; and Beau Hanna; special nephews, nieces, other relatives, and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma with the family greeting friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Eleanor's honor and kindly suggested to the Harlan County Clinic Building Fund.
