A Memorial Graveside Service and Inurnment for Betty J. Best will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska. All friends are invited to join the family at the cemetery.
Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; the Best family sincerely encourages each person to make their decision whether to attend Betty's service, based on the best interest of your health, and that of your community.
Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Best passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Betty was born on November 6, 1916 in Holdrege, the youngest of four children to Louis Brainard and Lula (Johnson) Titus. She attended school at Holdrege, graduating with the class of 1934. She then pursued higher education at Rockford Women's College for 1 year, then the University of Colorado.
On May 2, 1939, she and Robert Parks Best, MD were married. Together they had two children, Betty Anne and Nancy.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Holdrege. Betty was also a 50 year member of PEO. She enjoyed a lifelong passion for cooking, baking and fiber art. She loved baking with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She was an avid reader and walked to the Holdrege Public Library every day that the wind wasn't blowing a gale. She often said, "In Nebraska any day the wind isn't blowing is a nice day."
Besides her husband, and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Leila Titus; Anne Baker and her husband, Dr. Kenneth Baker; and Liscomb "Jo" Titus and his wife, Jane.
She will be remembered by, her daughters: Betty Anne Sayers; Nancy Herhahn and her husband, John; grandchildren: Robert J. McCormick and his wife, Michelle; Jane Anello and her husband, Andy; Amy Thompson and her husband, Kevin; John Herhahn and his wife, Sarah; and great grandchildren: Christine and Caylin McCormick; Lucas and Alex Eiffert; and Dominic and Dante Anello.
She valued family and community and wrote, "I feel grateful for the opportunities the pioneer and immigrant beginning gave my family. I realize how extremely fortunate I was to be included in a family that has been an integral part of the pioneering and development of Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Betty's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
