Funeral Services for Elizabeth L. "Liz" Schlatz will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege.
Elizabeth Lorraine "Liz" Schlatz, 80 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Liz was born April 6, 1935, on her parent's farm in rural Harlan County, Nebraska, southwest of Ragan, Nebraska, the eldest of four daughters born to Earl and Leona G. (Rhoades) Ashley. She grew up in Holdrege, where she received her education and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1952.
Liz started working at Brewster Hospital during high school.
On July 17, 1965 she was united in marriage to Garold W. Schlatz at the Methodist Church in Hastings, Nebraska. To this union two children were born: Garold, Jr., "Gary" and Ann Elizabeth. The family made their home in Holdrege, where she focused her efforts on raising the family. Liz went back to work as an X-Ray Technician at Brewster Hospital and later at Phelps Memorial Health Center in the late 1970s.
Liz enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, researching genealogy, reading, playing Bridge and spending time with her family and especially her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Garold in 2003; sister, Emilie Anderson in 2005; brothers-in-law, William Schlatz, Robert Munkries and Charles Waters; sister-in-law, Evelyn Mintzmyer; and two nephews, Jason Anderson and Joseph Waters.
She leaves to celebrate her life; her two children: Gary Schlatz of rural Republican City and Ann Martin and her husband, Shane of Seward, Nebraska; two grandchildren: Ashley and Ayden Martin; sisters: Paula Rae (Waters) Munkries of Amarillo, Texas and Evonne Cope and her husband, Earl of Holden, Missouri; brother-in-law, Stephen Anderson of Minden, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home.
