Memorial services for Elsie L. Brown will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, September 30, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Mike Szekely officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Elsie Louise Brown, 68 years of age of Bertrand, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska. She was born on December 11, 1941 in Onawa, Iowa to Melvin H. and Clara E. (Martz) Gries. She attended school in Lexington, Nebraska where she graduated with the class of 1960.
Elsie was blessed with a wonderful family of three children: Teola, Scott, and Carrie. The family made their home in the Bertrand area where Elsie worked for the Bertrand Nursing Home for over 18 years. She truly enjoyed her work and the friendships that were made there.
Elsie faithfully attended the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Loomis, Nebraska. She loved to spend time with her family. She also enjoyed tending to her fruit trees and spending time with her two dogs: Lucy and Boots, and her cat, Tank.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edward Gries during infancy.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her two daughters: Teola Campbell, and her husband, Jim of Holdrege, and Carrie McHarness and her husband, John of Axtell, Nebraska; one son, Scott Brown, and his wife, Sheryl, of Lexington; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Hoselton, and her husband, Jim of Eustis, Nebraska and Linda Jones, and her husband, Don of Cozad, Nebraska; two brothers, Larry Gries, and his wife, Leslie of Omaha, Nebraska and Frank Strong, and his wife, Susan of Eustis, Nebraska; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Elsie's wish for cremation.
Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
