Due to the inclement weather, the Funeral Service for Erma J. Seitz has been rescheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, Nebraska with Pastor Tim Glendening officiating. Interment will follow at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in rural Gosper County, Nebraska.
Celebration of Life Service for Erma J. Seitz will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, Nebraska with Reverend Tim Glendening officiating. Interment will be held in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery, following the services.
Erma Joan (Lehmann) Seitz, 81 years of age, of Elwood, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Elwood Nursing Home. She was born on December 21, 1936, at Gaylord, Kansas, the third of four children born to John and Emma (Von Frieling) Lehmann. She received her primary education from Gaylord Elementary School, and graduated from Smith Center High School, in Smith Center, Kansas, with the class of 1954.
On March 20, 1955, she married Junior "Bill" Seitz, and following his discharge from the Army, they made their home on a farm west of Smithfield. To this union four children were born: Karen, Pamela, Sheri, and Mark. In 1975, the family moved to Elwood, where Erma worked outside the home at the school cafeteria for a number of years, and later at Byrns Floorcovering.
Erma was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she served on various committees, was a Sunday school teacher, and sang in the choir. She also served as a volunteer for numerous organizations and events in the Elwood community.
Erma was an avid reader of newspapers, enjoyed playing Scrabble and Monopoly, loved to sing, and keeping in touch with family and friends. On February 14, 1996, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill of 41 years.
Erma will be remembered by her friends and family for her sense of humor, a song in her heart and a rhyme for every occasion.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Bill; Erma was preceded in death by; a granddaughter, Brianna Ard; son-in-law, Kevin Johnson; a brother, Leland Lehmann; and two sisters: Delores Timmons and Laura Overleese.
She leaves to celebrate her life her four children: Karen Ard of El Dorado, Kansas; Pam Heiden and her husband, Dean of Lincoln, Nebraska; Sheri Seitz of Elwood; and Mark Seitz and his wife, Jean of Kearney; seven grandchildren: Brenda Theobald and her husband, Scott; and Brian Ard, all of Omaha; Brenae Ard of El Dorado; Erin Heiden of Los Angeles, California; and Brandon, Jason and Dylan Seitz all of Kearney.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Erma's honor and will be designated at a later date.
