Private family memorial graveside services for Ethel E. Goedeken will be held at a later date in the Alma Cemetery at Alma, Nebraska.
Ethel Emma Goedeken, 95 years of age, of Alma, (formerly of Franklin, Nebraska) passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Mary Lanning Health Care in Hastings, Nebraska. Ethel was born November 9, 1919 at Waco, Nebraska, the third of five children born to Henry Frederick and Emma (Kuech) Eggersgluss. She was baptized as an infant at the Ebenezer Methodist Church near Waco and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church at Franklin, Nebraska in 1932. The family moved to Bloomington, Nebraska in 1929, where Ethel received her education and graduated from Bloomington High School with the class of 1937.
On December 4, 1938 she was united in marriage to Walter Milton "Dutch" Goedeken at the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma by Reverend Landeck. To this union three daughters were born: Marilyn Beth, Geraldine Rae, and Barbara June. The family made their home on the family farm near Republican City, Nebraska, where they engaged in farming and Ethel focused her efforts on raising their children and being a homemaker. On April 13, 1995, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Dutch. In 1996, Ethel relocated to Franklin, Nebraska, where she resided until she began to make her home at the Hillcrest Terrace in Alma in October of 2012.
Ethel was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Republican City.
Besides her husband, Dutch and her parents; Ethel was preceded in death by her daughter, Geraldine on May 17, 1979; granddaughter, Mary Joy Shepard; son-in-law, Robert Ault; four brothers: Elwood Eggersgluss and his wife, Margery, Harvey Eggersgluss and his wife, Verleen, Raymond Eggersgluss and Marvin Eggersgluss and his wife, Alice. Ethel leaves to mourn her passing; her two daughters: Marilyn Ault of Jefferson, Georgia and Barbara Shaver and her husband, Melvin of Hastings; five grandchildren: Ronald Ault, Sherry Minor and her husband, Raymond, Lee Shaver, Jeff Shaver and his wife, Nichole, and Jeremy Shaver and his wife, Sarah; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Ethel's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Ethel's honor and kindly suggested to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Republican City, Nebraska.
