Funeral Services for Eugene W. "Gene" Bredenkamp will be conducted from the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, Nebraska on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Cathi Braasch, officiating. Interment will be in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Gosper County, Nebraska.
Eugene Wayne "Gene" Bredenkamp, 73 years of age, of Elwood, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Bertrand Nursing Home. He was born June 8, 1936 in Gosper County, Nebraska, the eldest of two children of Alfred and Laura (Renken) Bredenkamp. In 1943, he was stricken by Polio and was hospitalized for several months in Lincoln, Nebraska as a young boy. Gene received his primary education at the Tracyville Rural School east of Smithfield and then graduated from the Bertrand High School with the class of 1954.
On November 26, 1966 he was united in marriage to Barbara Corder and to this union one daughter, Robyn was born.
Following his education, Gene began his employment with the ASCS Office in Elwood, where he was a farm representative and developed many lifelong friendships in Elwood and the surrounding communities throughout his years of service. In 1990, Gene retired from farm service and pursued other interest such as playing cards, gardening and enjoyed his time with his coffee buddies. Most of all he loved to follow his daughter, Robyn's activities.
He was a lifelong member of the Hope Lutheran Church.
He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Robyn Weismann and her husband, Andy of Gibbon, Nebraska; two grandsons: Matthew and Tyler Weismann of Gibbon; sister, Carolyn Fyfe and her husband, Bud of Kearney, Nebraska; nephew, Montie Fyfe and his wife, Kim and their children: Ryker, McKenzie, and Kytan all of Grand Island, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 prior to the services.
A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the Hope Lutheran Church or the Bertrand Nursing Home.
