Eugene G. Hunt

A Memorial Service for Eugene G. Hunt will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. Mark Crist officiating.

Eugene Gilbert Hunt, 71 years of age, of Holdrege, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at his home in Holdrege. Eugene was born on May 7, 1951, in Holdrege, the second of four children born to Dean and Joan (Ellison) Hunt.  He received his primary education from Wilcox Public School and then graduated with the class of 1969. Eugene later pursued higher education from Milford Community College.

On September 18, 1971, Eugene was united in marriage to Gayla Ortgiesen at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hildreth, Nebraska.  The couple made their home in Holdrege and were blessed with two children:  Corina and McLain.  Together the family enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing; and the boys loved to hunt!

Eugene worked in agriculture until 1998 when he graduated from Milford Community College and then began working at BD as a machinist.

Eugene's children were his greatest asset.  He enjoyed riding horses, his dogs, hunting, fishing, and playing cards with his grandchildren.  But most of all, Eugene enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Danny Hunt; and Keith Hunt; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, LaVern and Charlotte (Johnson) Ortgiesen; sister-in-law, Jeanne (Harms) Ortgiesen; and one brother-in-law, Robert Alderman.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Gayla Hunt of Holdrege; his daughter, Corina Wohlers and her husband, Curt of Dublin, Ohio; his son, McLain Hunt and his wife, Michelle of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Kaitlyn Hunt; Kaleb Hunt; Owen Wohlers; and Lucy Wohlers; one sister, Jonell Mueller and her husband, Brad of Funk, Nebraska; sister-in-law and family, Patricia Hunt of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters-in-law:  Mona Garrelts and her husband, Delmar of Grand Island, Nebraska; and JoAnn Alderman of Miami, Florida; one brother-in-law, Eugene "Butch" Ortgiesen of Kearney, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
