Celebration of Life Services for Eugene W. Schnuerle will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Paul Ferrarone officiating. Interment will follow at the Naponee Cemetery, Naponee, Nebraska.
Eugene "Gene" William Schnuerle, 86 years of age, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Gene was born on January 1, 1929, the younger of two children born to William and Hulda (Obering) Schnuerle south of Naponee. He received his early education and graduated from Naponee High School with the class of 1946.
On July 21, 1948, Gene was united in marriage to Beverly E. Richter in Franklin, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Judith Rosalee, David Eugene and Sue. The family made their home south of Naponee, where they engaged in farming. From 1955-1961, the family lived for a brief time in Colorado. The family then moved to Alma in 1966.
Gene enjoyed the lake, especially camping, fishing and water skiing. He also enjoyed attending farm auctions.
Gene was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Alma in 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Tomlin and her husband, Laith; and nephew, Gary Tomlin.
He leaves to mourn his passing; his loving and devoted wife, Beverly of Alma; son, David and his wife, Peggy of rural Naponee; two daughters: Judy Schnuerle of Hastings, Nebraska and Sue Suhr and her husband, Gary of Holdrege, Nebraska; special nephew, Bruce Richter of North Platte, Nebraska; two grandchildren: Joe Schnuerle and his wife, Renee of Franklin, Nebraska and Mike Suhr of Holdrege; four step-grandchildren: Holly Sindt and husband, Justin of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Lisa Stone of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kim Molzahn and her husband, Kynn of Naponee and Brett Stone of Denver, Colorado; two great-grandchildren: Cash and Harper; seven step great-grandchildren; and host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 4:00p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.
A memorial has been established in Gene's honor and kindly suggested to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for Cancer Research.
