Evelyn Marie (Schubert) Bendorf, 100 years of age, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Evelyn was born April 29, 1921, the eldest of four children born to William Henry and Clara Bertha (Gellerman) Schubert.  She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church on May 22, 1921 and was confirmed on April 14, 1935, with her confirmation verse being Psalms 37:4. She received her education from country school south of Wilcox and then three years at St. John's parochial school south of Wilcox. Evelyn then attended Wilcox High School, graduating with the class of 1939. Following graduation, she worked at the Hamburger Inn in Holdrege.

Evelyn met William A. "Bill" Bendorf while he was stationed at Camp Atlanta and the couple were married on October 14, 1945. This union was blessed three sons: Ken, Rod, and Jim. The family moved to Trenton, Illinois for a few years, and then relocated to Holdrege, where she was a homemaker. In 1963, Evelyn became a postal clerk at the Wilcox Post Office for 27 years and then was Postmaster for 3 years, until her retirement in 1988.

Evelyn was a faithful member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and was an officer of the Lutheran Women's' Missionary League. She was also a member of the Nebraska League of Postmasters, the Women's Chamber of Commerce, the St. John's Cemetery Board, and the Bicentennial Committee.

Evelyn loved to go fishing and camping with her family. She enjoyed quilting at home and with friends at the Holdrege Senior Center; country music shows; and having coffee with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill in 2001; sister, Adaline Lippstreu and her husband, Lloyd; brother, Delton Schubert; and brothers-in-law, Lester Johnson; and Wes Dreher.

Evelyn is survived by three sons: Ken Bendorf and his wife, Betsy of Holdrege; Rod Bendorf and his wife, Lorraine of Bertrand, Nebraska; and Pastor Jim Bendorf and his wife, Penny of Wilber, Nebraska; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Marfay Johnson of Holdrege; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Schubert) Dreher of Arvada, Colorado; along with many nieces and nephews, and extended family.
