Everett A. Schluntz, 91 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska (formerly of Oxford, Nebraska and rural Stamford, Nebraska), passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Everett was born on November 14, 1924 in Naponee, Nebraska, the youngest of three children born to Albert and Dora (Muir) Schluntz. The family later moved to Republican City, Nebraska, where he completed 12 years of education at Republican City Schools, graduating with the class of 1944. Everett was baptized in Republican City and was a member of the Stamford Lutheran Church in Stamford, Nebraska.

Everett was united in marriage to Norma Jean Haeker in Alma in the spring of 1944. Two sons were born to this union: Gerald Duane and Brent Allen. They resided south of Republican City, where they farmed with Everett's father. When the US Government bought their farm in 1949 for construction of the Harlan County Reservoir, they briefly relocated to a farm south of Fort Morgan, Colorado before returning to Stamford in 1951, where they continued farming until Everett's partial retirement. In 1978, they moved to Oxford and eventually on to Kearney due to Everett's failing health.

Everett was a strong athlete in school and an avid sports fan throughout his life. He never knew a stranger and was always known for his kind heart and his loyalty to his family. He never complained about anything and he was always happy to help anyone in need. Everett really enjoyed working hard on the farm – especially with the cattle. When someone made a comment about the weather being too hot or too cold he would always reply with humor, "That's just the way we like it."

Everett and Norma enjoyed their winters in Mesa, Arizona for many years beginning in the early 1970s. Everett liked to dance and play cards with his friends. They acquired numerous friends and lasting relationships throughout the years. Everett was a gentle soul, a devoted husband, a dedicated father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harold Schluntz and sister, Beulah Thomas.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 72 years, Norma Jean of Kearney; his sons: Gerald Schluntz and companion, Steve Seeman of Stamford and Brent Schluntz and his wife, Patricia of Oxford; four granddaughters: Tamara Bishop and her husband, Robert of Trabuco Canyon, California, Julie Smith of Frisco, Texas, Rochelle Kemp and her husband, Travis of Kearney, Bridget Krolikowski and her husband, Tyson of Omaha; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

A memorial has been established in Everett's honor and will be designated at a later date.
