Funeral Services for Ada "Faye" Wilcox will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church northwest of Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Craig Roberts officiating. Interment will be held in the Guide Rock Cemetery at Guide Rock, Nebraska at 2:30 p.m.
Ada "Faye" Wilcox, 98 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Faye was born March 18, 1916 on a farm near Davenport in Thayer County, Nebraska, the 4 th of 5 children born to James Harrison and Olive Grace (Knowells) Ross. She grew up in the Davenport vicinity, where she received her primary education in rural Thayer County and then graduated from Davenport High School with the class of 1933.
On July 16, 1936, Faye was united in marriage to Edward W. Wilcox at the parsonage of the United Methodist Church in Nora, Nebraska. The couple were blessed with one daughter, Carol Jean. In 1942, Faye and Ed began to care for a special niece, Doris who was raised like a daughter with their family. Shortly after they were married her husband, Edward was stricken with Polio and confined to a wheelchair the remainder of his life. Faye owned and operated a Beauty Salon in their home to provide for the family at Guide Rock until 1954. Later in years, she pursued higher education at the Kearney State College, taking summer classes to achieve her Bachelor's Degree in Education. After graduating from Kearney State in 1965, she began teaching in the lower elementary grades in Guide Rock and continued teaching until her retirement in 1977. Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Ed on August 30, 1984.
Faye was a fifty-year member of the United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She moved to Holdrege in 1993 to be near her daughter, Carol; and joined the Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church in 1994 and continued being active in her church until her passing. Faye truly enjoyed her family; especially attending her grandchildren's sporting activities.
Besides her parents and husband; she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bill Billeter; two brothers and two sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing; her daughter, Carol Billeter of Holdrege; three grandchildren: Mark Billeter (Marcia) of Loomis, Mike Billeter (Lisa) of Holdrege and Robyn Derickson of Bellevue, Nebraska; six great-grandchildren: Logan Edwards (Mike), Derek Billeter (Ashley), Drew Billeter (Whitney), Cole Billeter, Chas Billeter and his fiancé, Teresa Johnson, and Taryn Derickson; five great-great grandchildren: Alexis, Dayton, and Aubrey Billeter and Houston and Aspen Billeter; special niece, Doris Thorell of Belize, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
