Graveside Services for Floyd N. Kermmoade Jr. will be conducted from the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Nebraska on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dale Kermmoade, officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery with military honors provided by the George R. Mitchell V.F.W. Post #1365 and Martin Horn American Legion Post #219.
Floyd Norman Kermmoade Jr., 78 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Floyd was born February 25, 1930 at Lincoln, Nebraska, the third of six children of Floyd N. Kermmoade Sr. and Corintha L. (Gillam) Kermmoade. He received his primary education in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated high school from the Lincoln Teachers College. Following his education, Floyd served his country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1948. Floyd then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Floyd was employed by Hill and Niden Foundry for several years in Lincoln. On June 11, 1966 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth M. Ables and to this union four children were born: Rose, Deb, Mike and Norm. Floyd then became the Assistant Manager of McGowan Grain Inc. at Lincoln until relocating to Oxford, where he started a Saw Mill business, which he operated until 1989. At that point in time, Floyd began a roofing business, Kerm's Roofing. Floyd continued to be involved in the business until his passing.
Floyd's passion was his leatherwork; his talents were recognized by Past Governor Frank Morrison who commissioned him to do a leather piece, which hung in the Governor's Mansion for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Betty of Oxford; two daughters: Rose Morter and her husband, Curtis of Fremont, Nebraska and Deb Kermmoade of Elm Creek, Nebraska; two sons: Mike Kermmoade and his wife, Lucinda of Lincoln and Norm Kermmoade and his wife, Laurie of Orleans, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers: Bill Kermmoade and his wife, Liz of Littleton, Colorado, Elige Kermmoade and his wife, Virginia of Sheridan, Colorado and Tom Kermmoade and his wife, Val of Englewood, Colorado; one sister, Waunetta Zappas and her husband, George of Littleton, CO; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Samantha Morter and one brother, Albert Kermmoade.
Floyd will lie in state at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford on Friday, May 30, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
