Funeral Services for Floyd W. Murdoch will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Stan Murdoch and Pastor David Hunt, officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery.
Floyd William Murdoch, 83, of Oxford died Friday, January 09, 2009 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Floyd was born on June 30, 1925 in Gosper County, Nebraska the first of 5 children of Charlie and Iva (ten Bensel) Murdoch. He was baptized at a young age. The family moved from Gosper County to Harlan County in 1933 where he attended the Carter School and graduated from Mascot High School in 1943.
Floyd married Marie Daum of Murdo, South Dakota on May 15, 1948, and to this union five children were born: Carolyn, Stan, Shirley, Duane, and Marlin.
The couple engaged in farming and resided on farms near Edison and Holdrege, and moved in 1959 to the farm where he grew up near the Carter School in Harlan County. They moved to Oxford in 1973 and were currently residing at Holdrege Memorial Homes.
Floyd took great pride in his love of farming. He was a very active member of the Oxford First Baptist Church, serving on many boards and committees. Spending time with family brought him great joy, especially the time with his grand children and great grandchildren in recent years.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, and his five children: Carolyn Murdoch Lueking and her husband Jerry of Oxford, Rev. Stan Murdoch and his wife Pam of Kearney, Nebraska, Shirley Murdoch Smith and her husband Dr. Tom Smith of Holdrege, Duane Murdoch and his wife Cheryl of Orleans, Nebraska, Marlin Murdoch and his wife, Polly of Orleans; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters: Maxine Reed of Holdrege, Cleo Purdy and her husband, Ozzie of Mission Viejo, California; brothers: Paul Murdoch and his wife Ardyce of Carpenter, Wyoming, Dale Murdoch and his wife, Betty, of Holdrege, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one great-granddaughter both in infancy.
Floyd will lie in state at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford on Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the Oxford First Baptist Church, Roger Williams Fellowship Campus, or Gideon International Ministries.
