A Private Memorial Service and inurnment for Floyd D. Oliver will be held at a later date.
Floyd David "Scoot" Oliver, 82 years of age, of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Bertrand Nursing Home in Bertrand. Floyd was born October 18, 1933 at Modale, Iowa, the youngest of three children born to Leal William and Hazel May (Walls) Oliver. He received his education from the Modale Public Schools, graduating from Modale High School with the class of 1953.
Following his education, he enlisted into the United States Army on December 7, 1955 and was honorably discharged on November 21, 1957.
On November 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to JoAnne Babe in Pipestone, Minnesota. The couple was blessed with four children: Michael, Penny, Connie and Timothy.
Floyd was instrumental in the building of many National Wildlife Refuge Camps across the nation, where he served as a heavy equipment operator. The family made their home in Modale, Iowa, where Floyd worked at the DeSoto Bend National Wildlife Refuge. They then moved to Socorro, New Mexico where he worked for the Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in San Antonio, New Mexico and lastly the Desert National Wildlife Range in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1996, Floyd and JoAnne began to make their home in Bertrand closer to family. In 2013, he began to make his home at the Bertrand Nursing Home after his health began to fail.
Floyd loved the outdoors and enjoyed bird watching, flying and riding his motorcycle.
Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by his brother, William "Bill" Oliver; daughter-in-law, Michelle Oliver; son-in-law, Miguel Martinez and grandson, Andrew Gonzalez.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 60 years, JoAnne of Bertrand; his children: Michael Oliver of Ely, Nevada, Penny Martinez of Bertrand, Connie Oliver of Forest Grove, Oregon and Timothy Oliver of Bertrand; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Curzon and her husband, Everett of Pocatello, Idaho and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Floyd's wishes for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Floyd's honor and kindly suggested to the VA.
