Frances M. Ebmeier, 83 years of age of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away on March 11, 2020 at the Bertrand Nursing Home.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with CDC Guidelines to the recommendation of 10 people or less in the facility at one time.
Private family interment will be held at the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand.
Due to health concerns, additional services to honor Frances' life will be postponed to a later date.
A memorial has been established in Frances' honor, and kindly suggested to the Frances M. Ebmeier Scholarship Fund c/o the Phelps County Community Foundation in Holdrege.

Frances Mae Ebmeier was born July 2, 1936, near Atlanta on a farm in Phelps County, Nebraska, the youngest of five children to Edwin and Elma (Kearns) Johnston. She was baptized and became a member of the Atlanta Methodist Church in 1949. She received her primary education from Atlanta Elementary School and then attended Loomis High School, graduating with the class of 1953. She then pursued higher education at Kearney State College, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Education in 1964, and then received her Masters degree in Education in 1971.
On December 21, 1968, she was united in marriage to Delmar Rueben Ebmeier at the Atlanta Methodist Church. The couple moved to the family farm in 1970, when Delmar's parents moved into Bertrand. Frances was a dedicated teacher for 41 years. She started her career teaching in numerous rural schools in Gosper and Sherman Counties, as well as in Ragan, Nebraska. She then accepted a position as the fourth grade teacher at Loomis Public Schools, where she taught for 32 years, until her retirement in 1996. In November of 2006, Delmar and Frances began to make their home in Bertrand. She was preceded in death by Delmar in 2012.
Frances was a lifelong member of the Atlanta Methodist Church. She had a passion for teaching and was always invested in her student's lives, even as they became adults. Frances loved living on the farm, and enjoyed helping Delmar with the irrigating in the summertime.
Besides her husband, and parents; Frances was preceded in death by three brothers: Wayne Johnston and his wife, Maxine; John Johnston; and Melvin Johnston; and her sister, Isabelle Erickson and her husband, Harold; and Harold's second wife, Carol Erickson.
Frances leaves to celebrate her life; sisters-in-law: Karen Johnston of Oxford, Nebraska; and Betty Babock and her husband, Allen of Scotia, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Darold Ebmeier and his wife, Mary Ann of Maywood, Nebraska; nieces: Sue Treffer of Kearney, Nebraska; Karla Schulte and her husband, Jon of Shawnee, Kansas; Rendia Clark of Overland Park, Kansas; Karen Novotne and her husband, Larry of Gibbon, Nebraska; Joan Mansfield of Dacono, Colorado; and nephews: Ward Johnston and his wife, Sandra of Eudora, Kansas. She is also survived by Delmar's nieces and nephews: Laura Nokes and her husband, Garrett of McCook, Nebraska; Andrea Rathgeber and her husband, Mark of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Ben Ebmeier and his wife, Mindy of North Platte, Nebraska; Calvin Ebmeier and his wife, Charlee of Whitney, Nebraska; and Alex Babcock of Lincoln, Nebraska; and a host of great-nieces; great-nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
