Funeral Services for Francis E. "Frank" Allender will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Thomas Lux, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Francis Edward "Frank" Allender, 78 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Frank was born July 29, 1928 at Willeston, North Dakota, the second of five children of Charles Arthur and Sigrid (Berg) Allender. Frank received his education at Olympia, Washington. Following his education, Frank served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 until his retirement in 1971. On December 20, 1960 he was united in marriage to Veneta Pauline Anderson at Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home in the Bay area of California. In 1978, Frank and Veneta moved to Holdrege, where the couple enjoyed being close to family. Frank also worked as a self-employed house painter for many years. Following his move to Holdrege, Frank was employed by Artistic Woven Labels for two years and worked in Maintenance and Grounds Keeping at the Oxford Public School. On June 27, 2006 he was preceded in death by his wife, Veneta.
Frank was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #66 in Holdrege and enjoyed fishing and bowling.
He leaves to mourn his passing his brother, Charles A. Allender and his wife, Florence of Coos Bay, Oregon; two sisters: Delores Martin of Olympia, Washington and Lorraine Steel and her husband, Vernon of Tumwater, Washington; sisters-in-law: Felsa Lenon and her husband, Robert of Holdrege and Mary Anderson of Greeley, Colorado and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, Veneta, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Howard and brothers-in-law: Bob Martin, Merle Bivins, Clinton Anderson and Andrew "Junior" Anderson.
Mr. Allender will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
