Mass of Christian Burial Service for Frank E. Horwart will be conducted from the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., with Father Harlan Waskowiak, officiating. Interment will be in the Stamford Cemetery at Stamford, Nebraska with military honors provided by the Merlin Palmer American Post #233.

Frank Ellsworth Horwart, 93 years of age, of Stamford, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Harlan County Health Systems at Alma, Nebraska. Frank was born December 23, 1914 at Stamford, the second of three children born to Joseph and Mary (Coady) Horwart. He received his primary education in rural Harlan Country and then graduated from Stamford High School with the class of 1933. Following his education, Frank engaged in farming with his father. In his younger years, Frank enjoyed playing baseball for the town teams. During the depression, Frank moved to Burwell, Nebraska in the mid-1930's and worked for his uncle, John on his ranch. During this time, Frank met Loretta Ann Meuret and the couple was united in marriage on September 6, 1945 and the couple were blessed with two children: Paul Frank and Mary Ann. Frank served his country in the United States Army during WW II, serving tours of service in Tunisia and Rome until his honorable discharge on October 2, 1945. The family made their home on the farm southeast of Stamford, where Frank engaged in farming and ranching. In 1973, Frank and Loretta moved into Stamford. On October 17, 1987 he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta.

Frank took pride in his yard, loved spending time with his grandchildren and fond memories were made working with his son, Paul on the farm. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, member of the Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of the Merlin Palmer American Legion Post #233 and member of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce.

He leaves to mourn his passing his son, Paul Horwart and his wife, Peg of Stamford; daughter, Mary Ann Wolkensdorfer of Brighton, Colorado; four grandchildren: Patricia Fuchs and her husband, Clint of Grant, Nebraska, Patrick Horwart and his wife, Kasi of Cambridge, Nebraska, Penni Jackson and her husband, Brian of Lincoln, Nebraska and Pamela Pohlenz and her husband, Chris of Grand Island, Nebraska; seven great-grandchildren: McKinley and Evan Fuchs, Dawson, Brandon and Shane Horwart, Trey Jackson and Lauren Pohlenz; brothers-in-law: Charles Meuret and his wife, Eunice of Grand Junction, CO and Thomas Meuret and his wife, Dorothy of Grand Island, NE; sister-in-law, Cecilia Kaiser of Harden, Montana and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, Loretta he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Merle "Pete" Horwart; and one sister, Edna Sodeburg.

Frank will lie in state at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans on Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and prior to the Mass. Wake Service will be held at the church on Sunday, evening at 7:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
