Frank David Riggs, 74 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, (formerly of Bertrand) passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at his home in Kearney. Frank was born March 22, 1943 in Crawford, Nebraska, the third of seven children born to Warren and Edith (Crile) Riggs. He received his education from Crawford Public Schools.

He loved to dance, and attended many dances at Bohemian Hall. Frank served on the Volunteer Fire Department in Crawford, and was the Fire Chief for many years. During his time with the department, he fought many fires in the hills. He was also a member of the Rodeo Board, and helped light the fireworks every July 4th after the rodeos in Crawford.

On April 17, 1971, Frank was united in marriage to Jean Dannehl at the Bertrand United Methodist Church. Following their wedding, they moved to Crawford, where they both worked and had their two children.

In 1978, they moved to Bertrand as Frank started working at the New Holland plant in Lexington. Once the plant closed, Frank started his construction career, working for Delmar Graf, Larry Bennett in Bertrand, and finally Pro Building Supply lumberyard in Holdrege.

Frank was an avid hunter. In his younger days, Frank went elk hunting in New Mexico and fishing in Canada. He also enjoyed goose, and turkey hunting. Before moving to Kearney, Frank always hosted the annual dove hunting camp.

Frank enjoyed wood working in his spare time. His items like "tator 'n onion" bins, decorative worms, shelves, and more can still be seen at many family members' homes.

He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Riggs; father-in-law, Darrold Dannehl; sister, Vida Anderson; brother, Garry Riggs; and brother-in-law, Harold Huffman.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Riggs of Kearney; son, Joel Riggs of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Jennifer Slack and her husband, Pat; and granddaughters: Katelynn and Adelynn Slack all of Kearney; his mother, Edith Geary of Crawford; mother-in-law, Delores Dannehl of Kearney; four sisters: Billie Hamar of Crawford; Betty Calder of Lincoln; Dannie Stull and her husband, Gordon of Morrill, Nebraska; and Mary Sample and her husband, Randy of Minatare, Nebraska; brothers-in-law: Dean Dannehl and his wife, Peggy of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Mark Dannehl and his wife, Deb of Pardeeville, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Dian Huffman of Las Vegas, Nevada; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
