Funeral Services for Franklin T. Schoen will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Reverend Wes Hafner officiating. Interment will follow at the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, with Military Honors provided by the United States Army Funeral Honors Team.
Franklin Theodore Schoen, 83 years of age, of rural Oxford, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Harlan County Health Systems in Alma, Nebraska. Franklin was born June 10, 1934, in Oxford, the eldest of two children born to Theodore Adolf and Frieda K. (Geiselman) Schoen. Frank was baptized on July 8, 1934 at St. John's Lutheran Church and later confirmed on May 2, 1948. He received his primary education from Oxford Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1951, at 16 years old.
In 1955, Frank was united in marriage to Naomi K. Coffey. The couple was blessed with two sons: Steven F. and Michael J. The family made their home on the farmstead north of Oxford.
On November 21, 1956, Frank was inducted into the United States Army and completed his Basic Training at Little Rock, Arkansas. He was stationed and served his country in France. He was honorably discharged August 21, 1958.
On February 25, 1972, Frank was united in marriage to Ruth (Berner) Lueking. They enjoyed farming and traveling together. Franklin enjoyed his lifelong passion of farming, ranching and working with horses.
He was preceded in death by, his parents; step-daughter: Kay Haag and husband, Bernie; brother-in-law, Raymond Samuelson.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Ruth Schoen of Holdrege Memorial Homes; sons: Steven Schoen and his wife, Kim of Oxford and Michael Schoen and his wife, Charlene of Oxford; eight grandchildren: Matthew Schoen, Cody Schoen, Derek Schoen, Abby Schoen, Mandy Schoen, Dawn Haag, Misty Soderlund and her husband, Tracy, and Michelle Haag; three great-grandchildren: Jacinda and Gabrielle Vollmer and Brett Soderlund; sister, Sharon Samuelson of Pueblo, Colorado; along with extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Franklin's honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
