Private Family Graveside Services and inurnment for Gail P. Clay will be conducted from Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska at a later date.
Gail Patricia Clay, 92 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She was born August 28, 1922, near Ragan, Nebraska, the youngest of four children born to William and May Matilda (Beckham) Arvidson. Gail attended primary school in Ragan, later graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1940.
On May 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to LaMont Elmer Clay and to this union, two children were born: LaMont M. and Karen. The family made their home in Holdrege. Together, LaMont and Gail enjoyed Blue Grass Festivals and Square Dancing and as the years went on, LaMont would still grab his favorite gal and dance her across the living room.
Gail was employed at the Brewster Clinic as a receptionist and at the Holdrege Public Library. LaMont and Gail also owned and operated the Sweden Creme Drive Inn for several years as well. She enjoyed China painting and golfing and made the best potato salad in the World! Her family was always her first priority.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Holdrege Food pantry, Meals on Wheels and Christian Homes.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LaMont in 1989; one sister, Irene Arehart; and two brothers: Bernard Arvidson and Dayton Arvidson.
She leaves to mourn her passing; her children: LaMont M. Clay of Grand Island, Nebraska, Karen Straub and her husband, Doug of Lincoln, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Michelle, Beth and Sarah; three great-grandchildren: Noell, Audrey, and Alexis; along with many other relatives, friends and neighbors.
The family is honoring Gail's wish for cremation. There will be no memorial book signing.
A memorial has been established in Gail's honor and will be designated at a later date.
