Funeral Services for Galen D. Ferdinand will be held at the Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church in rural Loomis, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Craig Roberts officiating. Private family burial will be held prior to services at the Moses Hill Cemetery.
Galen Duane Ferdinand, 67 years of age, of rural Loomis, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at his home as the result of an ATV accident. Galen was born November 9, 1948 in Holdrege, Nebraska the youngest of three children born to Gilbert and Esther (Brummer) Ferdinand. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1968. He furthered his education at Hastings Community College, receiving his degree in Auto Mechanics.
Galen was employed as the Service Manager at the Strong Brothers Dealership in Holdrege and later at Holdrege Truck Equipment. He later took over the family farm.
On August 2, 1974, he was united in marriage to Julie Davis at Holdrege and to this union two children were born: Marie and Wayne. The family made their home on the family farm northwest of Loomis, where Galen pursued his life-long passion of farming. In later years, he enjoyed working side by side with his son, Wayne on the family farm.
Galen was a devoted member of the Moses Hill Covenant Church where he served in many capacities. He was an avid Husker fan, especially volleyball, baseball and football; attending as many games as he and Julie's schedules would allow. The family enjoyed many summers at their cabin on Harlan County Lake, where he enjoyed fishing. But most of all, Galen's pride and joy were his grandchildren.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brother, Melvin Ferdinand.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Julie of rural Loomis; his children: Marie Hale of Lincoln, Nebraska and Wayne Ferdinand and his wife, Krystle of rural Loomis; four grandchildren: Hailey and Allyson Hale of Lincoln and Easton and Peyton Ferdinand of rural Loomis; one sister, Loretta Misko of Ord, Nebraska; many close friends, including: Shane Odell of Loomis, Eric Jackson of Oxford, Phil Lueking of Holdrege, Isaac Robinson of Lincoln, Jeff Nelson of rural Loomis, Dan and Mysti Killough of Holdrege and the Kruse family of Grand Island, Nebraska; along with many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Galen's honor and will be designated as a college fund for his grandchildren.
