Graveside Memorial Services and Inurnment will be conducted from the Orleans Cemetery at Orleans, Nebraska on Saturday, 27, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with Mr. Keith Theobald, officiating.
Garry Lew Porter, 75 years of age, of Beaver City, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Beaver City Manor. He was born on October 10, 1935 on a farm south of Orleans, Nebraska to Walter Ralph and Thelma Elizabeth (Williams) Porter. He received his early education through the 8th grade at District #60, south of Orleans and then he attended Orleans High School, where he graduated with the class of 1954. Following his education, Garry enlisted in the armed forces and served in the United States Army in Germany until his honorable discharge in the spring of 1957.
He was united in marriage to Trudi Ann Burd and to this union four children were born: Kern, Penny, Traci and Heidi. He farmed south of Orleans and later in life drove a truck for Ag Valley Coop. In 1990, he left Orleans and moved to Beaver City, where he met Dorothy Schmidt and enjoyed her company for the last 20 years of his life until his passing.
He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, hunting and golf.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to mourn his passing his special friend, Dorothy Schmidt of Beaver City; son, Kern Porter and his wife, Darcie; daughters, Penny Lingg and Traci Dietz all of Orleans and Heidi Efta and husband, Greg of Longwood, Florida; twelve grandchildren; four great-grand children; a brother, Carol Porter of Alma, Nebraska and a host of other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring his wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
