Funeral Services for Gary W. DeBusk will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Fridhem Cemetery at Funk, Nebraska.
Gary Wayne DeBusk, 78 years of age, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Gary was born September 10, 1937 in Morrill, Kansas, the fourth of five children to Lola (McNary) DeBusk and James DeBusk. He grew up in Morrill and later moved to Falls City, Nebraska.
Gary was 10 years old when he lost his father. He always had a tender heart for widows and was willing to help them however he could.
On June 10, 1972, Gary was united in marriage to Sharon Rae Peck in Shawnee, Kansas. Together they raised four children: Steven, Michael, Kim and Skip. The family made their home in Shawnee until moving to Holdrege in 1980.
Gary was a master carpenter. Most of his adult life was spent building churches, as the construction superintendent, a calling he felt that God had directed him to do. He built churches in Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, and New Mexico, including one in Holdrege.
Survivors include; his wife, Sharon of Holdrege; daughter, Kim Anderson and her husband, Greg of Holdrege; sons: Steven DeBusk and his wife, Becky of Wasilla, Alaska, Michael DeBusk and his wife, Bendera of Hastings, Nebraska and Skip DeBusk and his wife, Kyle of Papillion, Nebraska; brother, Larry DeBusk and his wife, Carole of Falls City; brothers-in-law, Steve Peck and his wife, Alice of Elkhorn, Nebraska and Rev. "Spud" DeMent and his wife, Julie of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; an infant daughter; two brothers: James "Jimmy" DeBusk and Gerald DeBusk; sister, Leona Carder; sister-in-law, Joyce DeMent.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Gary's honor and kindly suggested to the family.
