Gary William Kaup, 58 years of age, of Loomis, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska following a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born September 4, 1956 at Holdrege, the eighth of nine children born to L. Burnell and Lois D. (Teaford) Kaup. He received his education from Oxford Public Schools and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1975. Throughout high school, Gary was employed by his father at their service station. After completing his education he was employed by the Burlington-Northern Railroad and then Trico Fertilizer plant until 1980. He then began a long career with Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege and at the time of his passing Gary was in his 34th year of service.
On February 19, 1982, he was united in marriage to Kathy Stinman at Holdrege. The family made their home in Oxford for many years.
On September 13, 2003, he was united in marriage to Tammy A. (Malchow) Wecker and they made their home in Loomis. Gary's love and devotion to his family was always first and foremost in his life.
Gary's kind heart and his concern for others before himself will always be remembered. His Faith in Jesus never wavered, even during his fight with cancer. He was a talented handy-man and carpenter who always had to have a project going on at home. Gary also shared these talents with many family members and he enjoyed building special items that would be placed on silent auctions for friends in need as well. He was a simple man, who believed things were either black or white in life and was always doing good things for others.
He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, where he enjoyed volunteering his time.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Tammy of Loomis; five children: Lacy Chapman and her husband, Cory of Holdrege, Adam Kaup of Boone, Iowa, Mandy Wecker of Kearney, Nebraska, Robin Wecker of Omaha, Nebraska, and Chris Wecker of Loomis; six grandchildren: Camy, Caden, Braxton, Curstyn, Leandra, and Mya; father-in-law, Rodney "Butch" Malchow and mother-in-law, Noreen "Billie" Malchow both of Urbana, Missouri; three brothers: Neil Kaup and his wife, Louise of Las Vegas, Nevada, Donn Kaup and his wife, Cindy of Oxford, and Bruce Kaup and his wife, Carla of Purcell, Oklahoma; five sisters: Joyce Smith of Holdrege, Lynn Freese of Fremont, Nebraska, Myrl Rezac of Omaha, Rita Rutan of Holdrege, and Julie McDonald and her husband, Dick of Oxford; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
