Gary Gene Lisec, 74 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska.  Gary was born June 3, 1940 in Wilber, Nebraska, the only child of Otto and LaVerne (Hoffman) Lisec.  Gary grew up on a farm by Turkey Creek northwest of Wilber, where he spent a lot of time as a boy fishing in Turkey Creek.  He received his primary education through eighth grade from a rural school and then graduated from Wilber High School with the class of 1958.  In 1960, the family moved into Wilber.

Following his education, Gary was employed by Petersen Vice Grip Manufacturing at DeWitt, Nebraska and later went to work at Better Buys, Inc. at Wilber.  In 1963, when Better Buys relocated, he moved to Oxford.

On October 5, 1963 he was united in marriage to Jean Kottas at the Milligan United Methodist Church and to this union two children were born:  Laura Jean and Neil Gene. The family made their home in Oxford until 1965, when they moved to Blair, Nebraska, where he managed a paint store.  In June of 1974 the family moved back to Oxford and Gary continued to work for Better Buys until 1988.  He then was a parts manager at Bellamy's Inc., a John Deere dealership in Arapahoe, Nebraska until his retirement in 2004.  Due to health issues, he made his home at Holdrege Memorial Homes beginning in 2008.

Gary enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing with his family on the Harlan County Lake.  He also enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, especially in the back yard, where there was always something blooming.

He was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church.  He helped teach Hunter Safety Classes, was a member of the Oxford Gun Club and participated in trap shooting during the summers.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  Gary leaves to mourn his passing; his wife of almost 51 years, Jean Lisec of Oxford; daughter, Laura Saxton and her husband, Neal, of Yuma, Colorado; one son, Neil Lisec and his wife, Angela, of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren:  Colby Schelling and his wife, Brittany, Kelsie Schelling, Clare and John Lisec; one great-grandson, Penn Schelling; two step granddaughters:  Sierra Saxton and Bailey Riegel and her husband, Ethan; sister-in-law, Arline Vossler and her husband, Charles, of Friend, Nebraska; and a host of nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
