Gary D Reusink

Funeral Services for Gary D. Reusink will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dana Carson, officiating. Interment will be in the Long Island Cemetery at Long Island, Kansas at 2:00 p.m.

Gary D. Reusink, 65 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away from complications from emphysema and heart disease on Monday, June 11, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Gary was born July 18, 1941 at Almena, Kansas, the third of four children of Garret John and Opal Irene (Nickell) Reusink. Gary received his education at Long Island, Kansas, graduating from Long Island High School with the class of 1959.

Following his education, Gary was united in marriage to Mary Jean Carter on May 15, 1960 at the Methodist Church in Long Island and to this three children were born: Debra, Diana and Terry. The family made their home in several Kansas communities including Norton and Long Island. Throughout the years, Gary worked in the grocery business and later employed by the City of Long Island in maintenance. In 1983 the family moved to Holdrege, where Gary was employed by the Holdrege Public Schools as a custodian at the Washington Elementary School for nineteen years. In 2001, Gary retired due to his health concerns and thoroughly missed his work and special connections with the school faculty and students.

He loved listening to Elvis Presley and Alan Jackson, was an avid Nascar Fan, especially Jeff Gordon and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mary of Holdrege; two daughters: Deb Anderson and her husband, Ron of Norton, Kansas and Diana Urbom and her husband, Jim of Holdrege; one son, Terry Reusink and his wife, Michelle of Gill, Colorado; twelve grandchildren: Ryan, Kyle, Megan, Logan, Stephanie, Levi, Lynae, Lexie, Kayla, Kody, Megan and Jennifer; one brother, Larry Reusink of Oxford, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Vera Reusink of Norton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ivalee Good and one brother, Harland Reusink.

Gary will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
