Gayle C Davis

Celebration of Life Services for Gayle C. Davis will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Gene Layne officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy Military Honors Team.

Gayle C. Davis, 66 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014, at the CHI- Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska, surrounded by his family. Gayle was born October 2, 1947 in Campbell, Nebraska, the eldest of four children born to Delton and Geraldine (Best) Davis. The family later moved to Wilcox, Nebraska where he received his education and graduation from Wilcox High School with the class of 1965.

Following his education, Gayle enlisted into the United States Navy where he was stationed on a Troop Carrier ship. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Four Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Gayle was honorably discharged on September 26, 1969, at the Naval Reserve Manpower Center in Bainbridge, Maryland. Gayle then transferred to the Naval Reserve until August 30, 1971.

Following his military service, Gayle was employed by Holdrege Electric.

In 1975, he was united in marriage to Linda Burkholder and together they raised three sons in Wilcox: Todd, James and Paul. Gayle was employed as a custodian at the Wilcox Public Schools primarily so he could be close to his young sons. He was an EMT with the Wilcox Fire Department for 20 years.

Gayle was employed for many years at Artistic Woven Labels (Paxar) and Allmand Brothers in Holdrege until his retirement in 2013.

Gayle loved to garden, travel and collect coins. He especially was fond of spending time with family and giving gifts for the holidays.

Besides his parents, Gayle was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn in 2013.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife of 39 years, Linda of Holdrege; his children: Todd Davis and his wife, Angie of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, James Davis and his wife, Tiffany of Kearney, Nebraska, Paul Davis and his wife, Janelle of Kearney; grandchildren; Lucius, Joshua, Cassandra, Hope Pracht and her husband, Adam, Hunter and Eleanor; sister, Charlene Jezbera and her husband, Gary of Wilcox; brother, Gary Davis and his wife, Ellen of Wilcox; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Gayle's honor and kindly suggested to the Wilcox Fire Department.
