Funeral Services for Gearo Peterson will be conducted from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, Nebraska on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Gary Panko, officiating. Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery north of Bertrand.
Gearo Peterson, 94 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Bertrand Nursing Home. Gearo was born August 2, 1912 on the family farm north of Bertrand, Nebraska, the eldest of two sons of John Oscar and Ethel (Dahl) Peterson. Gearo received his primary education at a district school north of Bertrand in Phelps County and then graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1928.
On March 3, 1935 he was united in marriage to Florence B. Bard and to this union three children were born: Gary, Paul and Sharon. The couple engaged in farming northeast of Bertrand. Gearo loved life on the farm and the labor of the land. The couple retired in 1987 and moved into Bertrand. On July 24, 2000 Gearo was preceded in death by his wife, Florence. In January of 2001, Gearo became a resident of the Bertrand Nursing Home where he resided until his passing.
He was a life-long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, where he was active in many capacities. In his free time he enjoyed tending to his horses and cattle.
He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons: Gary Peterson and his wife, Eileen of Bertrand and Paul Peterson and his wife, Rogene of Bertrand; one daughter, Sharon Liljehorn and her husband, Jim of Kearney, Nebraska; ten grandchildren: Loren Peterson and his wife, Lisa of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Luann Bowen and her husband, Jack of Bertrand, Kyle Peterson of Katy, Texas, Rocky Peterson and his wife, DeDe, Heidi High and her husband, Phil, Matt Peterson and his wife, Vicki all of Bertrand; Holly Johnson and her husband, Blake of Holdrege, Heather Tool and her husband, Tobian of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Dustin Liljehorn and his wife, Sherri of Denver and Josh Liljehorn of Kearney; 25 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Rachel Bard of Holdrege and Leitha Peterson of Kearney and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, Florence, he was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carol Peterson.
Mr. Peterson will lie in state at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand, Nebraska on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
