Geneva Rebbecca (Kershner) Wheeler, 82 years of age of Edison, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at her home in Edison. She was born October 18, 1931 in Oakwood, Oklahoma, the second of four children born to Ernest and Blanche (Rhodes) Kershner. She attended school in Oakwood, Oklahoma and graduated from Canton High School in Canton, Oklahoma with the class of 1950. Geneva knew that she wanted to pursue a career in health care, so she applied and was accepted to Madison College for Nursing in Tennessee. She completed a one year nursing course (1950-1951) at Madison College, and then returned home and met Ernest S. Wheeler.
Geneva was united in marriage to Ernest S. Wheeler on January 12, 1952 and begun their lives in Watonga, Oklahoma. Soon their family began to grow-Kathleen "Kathy" Ernestine was born September 15, 1952, Leonard Vern was born September 4, 1954, Mary Charlene was born August 1, 1958, twins, Sandy Lynn and Randy Lee were born August 4, 1960 and Thomas "Tommy" Eugene was born November 25, 1961. Throughout the years, the family moved from Watonga, Oklahoma to Creed, Colorado and then back to Oklahoma. Ernest passed away on November 14, 1966, which left Geneva to raise and provide for the six children.
Geneva had to work two full-time jobs, in which she was able to work in the career field that she loved. She worked in hospitals and nursing homes in Oklahoma, Colorado, and Kansas. She also did home health care for several years until she moved to Beaver City to take care of her father, until he passed in December 21, 1987. She stayed in Beaver City until she lost her home in a fire. She then moved to Edison until her death.
Geneva Wheeler was a woman that was hard working, strong willed, loving, supportive, generous, caring, and loved God to the fullest. She was a long standing member of the Beaver City Seventh Day Adventist Church. She loved exploring different places and traveled by plane, bus, train, or car. In 1971, she flew to Germany, to be with Kathy when she gave birth to her first grandchild. She loved being surrounded by family and friends. No matter how little she had, if you needed something, it was yours. She always made room for anyone in need. Due to the hard times, she became obsessed with thrift stores and garage sales. If there was one in the vicinity, she would find it. She loved with her whole being and she found "good" in everyone. She was always positive, regardless of how bad the situation was. She knew that as long as you talked to God and shared your worries with Him, He would see you through. Her pride and joy, were her family. Her children were everything to her. She carried guilt for not being there for her children, as they grew up, but she made sure that they were provided for, with a roof over their heads and food in their bellies. She did the best that she could and no matter what, she loved each and every one of them unconditionally. Her love stretched beyond imagination, as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren became an abundance, but no matter how many there were, there was enough room on her lap to make sure every one of them felt her love. She was truly an amazing woman.
Geneva was preceded in death by parents; husband, Ernest; sister, Charlene; brother, Warren; daughter, Kathleen; sons: Vern and Tommy; and great-granddaughter, Lauren.
