Gerald "Jerry" D. Beedle

Graveside Services for Gerald "Jerry" Beedle will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Jean Clayton officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the United States Navy Military Honors Team.

Gerald Dean "Jerry" Beedle, 93 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 3, 2018 in Holdrege. Jerry was born December 9, 1924, in Furnas County, Nebraska, to Calvin and Dorothy (Breinig) Beedle.  He received his primary education at schools in Edison and Arapahoe, Nebraska and then Holbrook High School, graduating with the class of 1941.

Following his education, Jerry was inducted into the U. S. Navy on June 29, 1943. He served as a yeoman aboard several troop transports in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged on May 1, 1946 and was very proud to have served his country.

On February 28, 1946, he was united in marriage to Elaine Woolsey in Los Angeles, California and they were blessed with one daughter, Teresa Layne. The family moved to Holdrege in 1946, where Jerry was employed at Grainger Brothers and later at Becton-Dickenson, retiring in 1984.  Upon retirement, Jerry and Elaine moved to Johnson Lake, Nebraska, where Jerry was an active golfer, serving on the boards of the Holdrege Country Club, as well as the Lakeside Country Club in Elwood, Nebraska.  In 2008, the couple moved back to Holdrege. On February 28, 2016, Jerry and Elaine celebrated their 70 ^th wedding anniversary and on March 8, 2017, she preceded him in death.

Besides his parents and wife of 71 years, Elaine; Jerry was preceded in death by a twin brother, Derald Beedle; and two sisters-in-law: Sarah Olson and Judy Olson.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his daughter, Teresa Beedle, her husband, Tom Dunham of Nevada City, California; sisters: Dorothy Paulson and her husband, Marv, and Shirley Englund and her husband, Paul all of Holdrege; brother, Dale Beedle and his wife, Judy of Arapahoe; sister-in-law, Maxine Beedle of Holdrege; brothers-in-law: Roger Olson and his wife, Betsy, and Ed Olson, all of Holdrege; and a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Jerry's wish.
