Funeral Services for Gerald L. Malone will be conducted from the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, Nebraska on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dave Irwin, officiating. Interment will be in the Orleans Cemetery.
Gerald Lee Malone, 64 years of age, of Clay Center, Nebraska (formerly of Orleans), passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard, Nebraska. Gerald was born July 21, 1946 at Orleans, the second child born to Willard W. and Opal M. (Niles) Malone. He received his education from Orleans Public Schools and from Sterling, Colorado.
On September 6, 1979 he was united in marriage to Judy Gibson and to this union one son, Chris was born. With this marriage, Gerald also gained a son, Willie. The family made their home in Orleans, where Gerald was employed at the Orleans Hay Mill for several years until its closing and then worked for the Village of Orleans for nineteen years, before his retirement. Throughout the years, Gerald also helped several area farmers. Due to his failing health, in July of 2010 he moved to Clay Center, Nebraska to be closer to his niece, Haley Sintek and her husband, Rob and family and nephew, Jim Malone and family.
Gerald was a member of the Orleans Fire and Rescue Department and the Orleans Lions Club. In earlier years, Gerald attended the Evangelical Free Church in Orleans. He loved to fish, and was always there with a helpful hand and a strong back to assist anyone who needed help.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his two brothers: Larry Malone and Randy Smith; and two nephews: Dale and Mike Malone.
He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons: Chris Malone and his wife, Sarah of Orleans and Willie Malone of Minnesota; three grandchildren: Emily, Caleb and Aiden Malone all of Orleans; one sister, Diane Schluntz of Orleans; two nieces: Haley Sintek and her husband, Rob of Clay Center, Carmen Holbrook and her husband, Chad of Aurora, Colorado; nephews: Jim Malone of Phillips, Nebraska, Cole Malone of Clay Center, Allen Schluntz of Haxton, Colorado, and Eric Schluntz of Argentina; ten great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans on Friday, March 4, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date and may be sent to the family at 101 S. Clay Ave., Clay Center, NE 68933.
