Celebration of Life Services for Gerry F. Humphries will be held on November 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Daren Popple officiating. Private family inurnment will be held in the Immanuel Cemetery in rural Harlan County, Nebraska prior to the services.
Geraldine Fae "Gerry" Humphries, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on November 3, 2022, at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Gerry was born near Cambridge, Nebraska on January 27, 1939, the fourth of six children, born to Glenn and Frances (Kimmel) Lamb. She received her primary education from a country school before attending Mascot Schools and later, graduated from Ragan High School, with the class of 1956.
Following her education, Gerry worked at Ben Franklins. On February 4, 1962, she was united in marriage to Dean Humphries at the Mascot Bethel Church south of Holdrege. The couple was blessed with three children: Julie Lynn, Lori Lee, and Randall Dean. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Gerry worked various places including: Brewster Hospital as a nurse's aide, managed Mod-O-Day women's clothing store, The Alley Bookstore, Karla's Creations, Claussen Shoe Store, D&S Variety, Sears, Holdrege Public Schools in the cafeteria, and over eight years at Holdrege Market Place in the deli. Throughout the years, Gerry also sold Tupperware and Avon.
She loved to read, do crafts, paint, and sew. Gerry and Dean always had a large garden and enjoyed sharing the fruits of their labor. She was a great cook and always liked to try new recipes. Gerry was a member of the Mrs. Jaycees and the First Baptist Church in Holdrege where she sang in the choir.
Besides her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters: Laura "Pearl" Carlson and her husband, Ernest; Nyla Nelson and her husband, Darrel; and Evelyn Lamb; brothers-in-law: Harold Shield; and Les Dallman.
Gerry leaves to celebrate her life two daughters: Julie Stuart and her husband, Richard of Beatrice, Nebraska; and Lori Watson and her husband, Rich of Holdrege; one son, Randall Humphries of Bellevue, Nebraska; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Marni (Stuart) Baker and her husband, Beau, and children, Aubree and Burk of Lexington, Nebraska; Devin Stuart of Beatrice; Jonah Watson of Kearney, Nebraska; Elijah Watson of Los Angeles, California; Hannah (Watson) Goldfish and her husband, Avery of Holdrege; and Sarai Humphries of Opelousas, Louisiana; sisters: Karene Dallman of Lincoln; and Kathryn James and her husband, Dale of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A memorial book signing will be held on November 25, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Gerry's honor, and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Public Library at 604 East Avenue, Holdrege, NE 68949.
