Memorial Mass for Geraldine "Gerri" M. Rome will be conducted from the All Saint's Catholic Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Thomas Lux, officiating. Rosary Services will be held prior to the Memorial Mass at 9:30 a.m.

Geraldine Marie Rome, 67, years of age, of Funk, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Gerri was born October 18, 1939, the eldest of five children of Joseph and Madeline (Ribordy) Rumback. She received her primary education from Harmony Elementary and then graduated from White Dove High School in Hoxie, Kansas with the class of 1957. Following her education, Gerri worked as a Nanny in Chicago, Illinois for several years.

On June 6, 1959 she was united in marriage to Donald August Rome at Grainfield, Kansas and to this union three children were born: Lori, Darin and Kimberly. The family made their home in Denver, Colorado, where Don was employed in the Grocery Business. In 1975, the family moved to Hill City, Kansas, where they owned and operated a grocery store "Rome's Superette". In 1993, Don and Gerri moved to Funk, Nebraska. On May 24, 2004 she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald.

Gerri enjoyed gardening, playing hot dice, sewing, crafts, stamping, playing guitar, singing and spending time with her mother, children, grandchildren and other family and friends. She was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege.

She leaves to mourn her passing her mother, Madeline Rumback of Holdrege; two daughters: Lori Heger and her husband, Jeff of Thornton, Colorado and Kimberly Heger and her husband, Jack of Funk; one son, Darin Rome and his wife, Darla of Berthoud, Colorado; six grandchildren: Randy Heger and his wife, Josephine, Ryan Heger, Jennifer Heger, Shayne Heger, Ashlee Rome and Eric Rome; one great-grandson, Dominic Heger; two brothers: Lonnie Rumback and his wife, Carol of Union, Missouri and Lessley Rumback and his wife, Marcia of Cape Fair, Missouri; two sisters: Wanda Wire and her husband, Morrise of Greeley, Colorado and Juliana Rome and her husband, William of Arvada, Colorado; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Trometter and her husband, Edgar of Trinidad, Colorado and Betty Grafel and her husband, Wayne of Culbertson, Nebraska; three brothers-in-law: Eugene Rome and his wife, Jeannie of Grand Junction, Colorado, Jerry Rome and his wife, Virginia of Arvada, Colorado and Greg Rome and his wife, Linda of Golden, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Donald she was preceded in death by her father; two grandchildren in infancy: Cory and Joshua Heger; sister-in-law, Jean Rife and brother-in-law, Leo Rome.

Memorial book signing will be on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

The family is honoring Gerri's wishes for cremation.

A memorial has been established in her memory.
