Mass of Christian Burial for Gertrude C. Fischbach will be conducted from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jamie Hottovy officiating. Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., with a rosary/wake service held at the church at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery at Orleans.

Gertrude Catherine Fischbach, 97 years of age of Kearney, Nebraska (formerly of Orleans) passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Saint John's Good Samaritan Center – Nursing Home in Kearney. Gertrude was born March 28, 1914, on the family farm near Hebron, Nebraska, the seventh of eight children born to Edward and Catherine (Goepfrich) Wiedel. Gertrude attended and graduated from Hebron High School with the class of 1932.

On June 15, 1936 she married Albert George Fischbach in Hebron. To this union six sons were born: Ed, Ken, Ray, Larry, Jim, and Steve.

Gertrude enjoyed farming and raising a large garden. She also taught Catechism and attended daily mass. She was also part of the Altar Society.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1983; son, Ken; brothers and sister-in-laws.

She leaves to mourn her passing her sons: Ed Fischbach and his wife, Mary, of West Hills, California, Ray Fischbach and his wife, Pat of Carmichael, California, Larry Fischbach and his wife, Wanda of Roanoke, Virginia, Jim Fischbach and his wife, Linda of Kearney, and Steve Fischbach and wife, Cheryl of Arlington, Texas; daughter-in-law, Charlene Fischbach of Holdrege, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
