Celebration of Life Service for Ginger Johnston will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Mike Szekely officiating.  A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Virginia Lee "Ginger" Johnston, 66 years of age, of Loomis, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016 at her home in Loomis, Nebraska, after battling cancer for the past year.  Ginger was born January 18, 1950, the third of four children born to Hal and Mabel (Hendricks) Harkins.  She grew up at St. Francis, Kansas, where she graduated from St. Francis High School with the class of 1968.  She then pursued higher education at Kansas State University.

On September 13, 1969 she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Larry "Butch" Johnston at St. Francis and to this union three children were born:  Sheradi, Katherine, and Jon.  The family made their home in Loomis, where Ginger was employed by Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege for twenty-seven years until her retirement.

Ginger was a talented seamstress, she especially enjoyed hand-quilting.  She also loved decorating cakes for special occasions for her family.  Her grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life and she thoroughly enjoyed following their activities and sporting events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Neil Johnston; one sister, Kathy Pinnel; sister-in-law, Peggy Booe; brother-in-law, Robert Brown and one grandson, Joseph Koerperich.

Ginger leaves to celebrate her life; her husband, Butch of 47 years of Loomis; two daughters:  Sheradi Johnston and her special friend, Rex McClain both of Arapahoe, Nebraska and Katie Koerperich and her husband, Don of Selden, Kansas; one son, J.J. Johnston and his wife, Angie of Bertrand, Nebraska; seven grandchildren:  Shelbi, Melonie and Nolan Meyers, Jessica, Jaiden and Jerrit Koerperich and Jaysea Johnston; mother-in-law, Glenna Johnston of Holdrege; one sister, Marlene Brown of Chico, California; one brother, Tim Harkins of Laramie, Wyoming; brothers-in-law:  Tom Booe of Loomis and Danny Johnston of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; sisters-in-law:  Teresa Johnston of Nashville, Tennessee and Tami Rademaker and her husband, Wes of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Ginger's wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in Ginger's honor and kindly suggested to the Cancer Center at CHI Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.
