Funeral services for Gisela E. Schleusener will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Timm Meyer, officiating. Interment will be held at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Nebraska.
Gisela Elisabeth Schleusener, 91 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Oxford) passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. She was born on October 11, 1919, the second of three children born to Rev. Johannes and Elisabeth (von Bernstorff) Schoene in Berlin, Germany. She attended school in the country and then went on to high school graduating in 1938. She continued her education in Hamburg, Germany, where she received her Teaching Certificate. Gisela then taught school for several years.
In 1952 she met Reinhold Albert Schleusener when he traveled to Germany to visit friends. On August 2, 1953 Gisela and Reinhold were united in marriage in Oxford The couple made their home on the family farm east of Oxford and later in years Gisela taught school for a year in Stamford. The couple were blessed with three daughters: Karen, Iris and Rose. On April 1, 1980, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reinhold. Due to her failing health, she began to make her home at Holdrege Memorial Homes in 2006.
In her younger years, Gisela enjoyed sewing and baking and most recently she enjoyed reading. She enjoyed her membership through the years and made many friendship bonds in the sewing club and the Carter Cheer Club. Gisela was also a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Norton, Kansas.
Besides her parents and husband, Reinhold, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Sigismund Schoene and his wife, Gertrude and Wolfgang Schoene all of Germany; and brother-in-law, Alfred Schleusener and his wife, Lilly.
She leaves to mourn her passing her three daughters: Karen Helberg and her husband, Vaughn of Lincoln, Nebraska, Iris Rush and her husband, Todd of Las Vegas, Nevada and Rose Bohl and her husband, Tim of Oxford; nine grandchildren: Tom Helberg and his fiancé, Katelyn, Marcus, Jordan, Michael and Rachel Rush, Dustin Bohl and his fiancé, Tiffany, Aron Bohl and his fiancé, Jessica, Ryan Bohl and Christine Bohl; sister-in-law, Maria Schoene of Germany; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
