Funeral Services for Gladys M. Coakley will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church in Edison, Nebraska with Pastor Kirk Einspahr officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Nebraska.

Gladys Marie Coakley, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Edison) passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She was born on June 14, 1914 at St. Edward, Nebraska the youngest of two children of Albert J. and Mary (Grapes) Capstick. She attended school at District #32 in Boone County, Nebraska and at Fullerton, Nebraska.

On May 1, 1933, she was united in marriage to Guy Walter Coakley in Grand Island, Nebraska and to this union three daughters were born: Velma, Helen and Lila. The family made their home in Nance County, Nebraska before moving to the Oxford and Edison area in 1950.

Gladys worked as a cook at the Oxford Public School for many years until she retired at the age of 75.

She was a member of the Christian Church in Edison.

Gladys enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and cleaning. She especially loved her dogs.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy in 1982; one brother, Harold Capstick and one great-grandson, Ian Michael York.

She leaves to mourn her passing her three daughters: Velma Loose of Holdrege, Helen Blincow and her husband, James of Bertrand, Nebraska, and Lila Snyder and her husband, Jim of Phoenix, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Opal Coakley of Arapahoe, Nebraska as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
