Gladys Mae (Mustion) Harper, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, formerly of Norton, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Gladys was born on September 25, 1935, in Koshkonong, Missouri, one of seven children born to Gail Cecil and Victoria Pearl (Brindle) Mustion. She received her education from Indianola High School, graduating with the class of 1953.
She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the church of Christ in Indianola.
She married LeRoy Harper of Norton, on June 5, 1955 in Indianola. Although no children were born to this union, Gladys found joy in her nieces and nephews and enjoyed showering them with peanut butter reeses, and her homemade peanut brittle and peanut butter fudge.
Gladys began her career at Prairie Land Electric in Norton as the billing clerk on December 1, 1962. In January of 1991, she advanced to Billing Supervisor, the position she held until her retirement on June 18, 2013. She held her job for 51 years. She felt her work was an extension of her family. Gladys taught herself to program the computer all on her own when the company got their first computer system. The executives were amazed that she had taught herself to write the programs.
Upon retirement, Gladys wanted everyone to know Jesus so they could have eternal life, so she wrote several Bible studies that were easy to understand so people could know how to have a relationship with Jesus like she did.
She was an extremely talented writer and poet and wrote many poems for family and friends over the years. Many of her writings will be shared with several churches and family.
Gladys was loved by all who knew her and will be missed dearly!
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy Harper in 2014; her parents; and her brothers: Roy, Fred, Donald and Carroll Mustion.
Gladys leaves to celebrate her life; her sisters: Florence Baker of Decatur, Arkansas; and Dorothy Bruening of Holdrege; and many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
A memorial has been established in Gladys' honor and kindly suggested to the family for a later designation.
