Gladys Ann Larson, 104 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, (formerly of Bertrand) passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Gladys was born July 11, 1912 on a farm south of Bertrand in Phelps County, Nebraska, the second of three children born to Alfred A. and Ellen Marie (Johnson) Peterson. She was baptized as an infant at the Loomis Evangelical Free Church. Gladys received her primary education from District #36 and then Bertrand Community School, where she graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1930. She then pursued higher education at Kearney State Teachers College, where she attained her teaching certificate. Gladys then taught in a rural school.

On June 5, 1934, Gladys was united in marriage to Clifton P. Larson of Loomis, and to this union three children were born: Janet, Joyce, and Dennis. The family made their home on a farm north of Loomis, which was Clifton's grandfather's farm in the Westmark community for ten years. While living here they joined the Westmark Evangelical Free Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and was active in the Women's society.

In 1944, they moved to a farm four miles west of Loomis, which was her parents, and lived there until their semi-retirement from farming and raising livestock. In 1970, Gladys and Clifton moved into Bertrand, where they built a home. After moving into Bertrand, they enjoyed several bus tours throughout the United States. She also did babysitting and worked in the kitchen at the Bertrand Nursing Home. Gladys enjoyed activities at the senior center and was a member of the Bertrand Women's Club, the Homemaker Extension Club, Fairview Club, Help-U-Club, Neighborhood Birthday Club, and Bible study groups. She also enjoyed embroidery, playing Rummikub, cooking, baking, loved to have family come every year at Christmas time, and most of all enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren. She made lots of cookies, ostakaka, rye bread, and other Swedish dishes.

On January 24, 2003, Gladys was preceded in death by Clifton. Prior to Clifton's passing they had celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary. Gladys began to make her home at Christian Homes in September of 2008 and received loving care from all members of the staff.
